About

Bergman Handmade is a one-woman creative project, supported by a group of amazing women.

A full-time photographer, Carey is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design. Trained in traditional photography, Bergman was created from a passion and need to, once again, use her hands in the creative process.

All pieces are handcrafted by Carey in her home studio in Saskatchewan. Inspired by forms, texture, colours, experiences, imperfections and touch. A tactile and experimental process of creativity. Rather than seasonal collections, each batch of earrings are made independently, with new colour mixes and repurposing unused clay. Although abstract and minimal shapes might be familiar across all the pieces, each batch is unique. Adding the slight changes and “imperfections” that can happen during the firing process, each of the handmade pieces are unique and one of a kind.

Handle with care.

Commitment

The Bergman earrings happened because of the life and work situations that happened during the pandemic lockdown. Living alone, with generalized anxiety and panic disorder, during a pandemic and lockdown is terrifying and debilitating. I was unable to work, but needed something creative, safe and affordable to do. I bought a few supplies, made a few supplies, read and watched a ton of tutorials and just went for it. And then I realized it incorporated everything I love - using my hands, math, science, forms, colour theory and creating. All while calming my anxiety, keeping my head above water and helping me pay the bills :)

Since this creative outlet has helped me keep a check on my mental health, I want to try to give back what it has given me - support and stability. A portion of all proceeds will be given to a health, arts or social justice program or service. If you are able, there are so many organizations that needs support. Especially right now. - Carey xo
